Salmonella discovered in salami offered by Aldi
The Federal Office of Consumer Protection and Food Safety and Aldi-Süd warn of a salami variety in which salmonella was discovered. These bacteria can cause dangerous diarrheal diseases. The affected product should never be consumed and will be recalled.
The supplier Herm. Schepers & Comp. GmbH & Co. KG calls back the salami "Salame Felino PGI" offered by Aldi with the best before dates 28 August 2020 and 04 September 2020. Salmonella was found in samples of the salami.
Where was the salami sold?
The product was not sold in the entire Aldi Süd sales area, but only in Saarland and in parts of North Rhine-Westphalia, Hesse, Rhineland-Palatinate, Baden-Württemberg and Bavaria. According to Aldi Süd, the salami has already been taken out of sale. Aldi points out that other best-before dates and other products of the supplier are not affected.
Where can the salami in question be returned?
The product affected by the recall can be returned to any Aldi branch. The purchase price will be refunded there.
What are the dangers of Salmonella?
According to the Federal Center for Health Education, salmonella are bacteria that cause the typical food infection salmonellosis. The pathogens multiply in the gastrointestinal tract, where they most often get through contaminated food or poor kitchen hygiene.
The disease is manifested by sudden diarrhea, headache and abdominal pain, general malaise and occasionally vomiting. In some cases, the disease is accompanied by fever. The symptoms can last for several days. In rare cases, severe illnesses with complications such as blood poisoning (sepsis) can occur. Infants, toddlers, seniors and people with a weakened immune system are particularly at risk. (vb)
